“Let all that you do be done in love.” – 1st Corinthians 16:14 (NKJV)
As a young girl, I learned a simple song in Bible Club: “Love in any language, straight from the heart, puts us all together, never apart.” Years later, living in Switzerland and worshipping among believers from over fifty-six nations, those words have come alive.
In our Swiss fellowship, worship is expressed in many languages. When songs rise in English, I dance; when they flow in French, my West African brothers and sisters dance even more.
Language can divide when we focus on ourselves – “Come, let us go down and confuse their language…” (Genesis 11:7, NKJV) – but it can also unite when we focus on heaven – “…everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marvelled…” (Acts 2:6-7). Today, God is inviting you to reach the world with His love, so what language will you speak?
At First Assembly of God Church, Wortmanville, Guyana, an usher once noticed a brother about to leave and reached out – with a smile and a simple sign. He was seeking to be a part of the fellowship even though he spoke only Spanish. Months later, that Spanish-speaking brother has brought others. Now, interpretation flows through the gifted hands of young Guyanese doctors in the fellowship who were trained in Cuba. Our worship leaders are learning Spanish songs, and soon we will all sing together – one sound, many tongues. What a mighty God we serve! Indeed, love in every language, straight from the heart!.
Today, God is challenging us to embrace language as ministry. It may be spoken words, sign language, a smile, or an embrace. Love speaks them all.
Go! Tell! God is good!
¡Ve y comparte! Dios es bueno.
